Report: VH1 Loses Role At ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction Gala
January 10, 2007According to the New York Daily News, VH1 will not carry the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction gala this year, and a Hall spokeswoman says the organization is still deciding what course of television action to take.
VH1 has taped the show for the past several years and telecast an edited-down version a few nights later. That system was a balancing act: The Hall wanted attention and promotion, but didn't want to turn the annual Waldorf-Astoria Hotel dinner, which this year will be March 12, into purely a TV event.
A VH1 spokeswoman told the New York Daily News yesterday the Hall contract "expired and wasn't renewed." A new TV partner would presumably have to be serving an audience to whom the Hall's inductees would appeal. This year those inductees include VAN HALEN, R.E.M., PATTI SMITH, GRANDMASTER FLASH and the RONETTES.
The Hall has a new management team this year and has made a number of changes, including an overhaul of its nominating committee.
